Building Genealogy Apps Using Clojure and Functional Programming
In this workshop Justin Balthrop, CTO of Geni.com, will walk you through how to write apps for genealogy research using the Clojure programming language and the Geni API. He will discuss the benefits of Functional Programming and detail how it simplifies the process of analyzing genealogy data.
He will teach you the basics of the Clojure programming language and show you how easy the Geni API makes it to explore the rich data in the World Family Tree programmatically.
Justin Balthrop is the VP of Technology at MyHeritage. He has been a member of the Geni team since 2007 and has been programming Clojure since 2009. In his previous life, he was a network security researcher in the Adaptive Computation group at the University of New Mexico. He stays busy designing and building Geni’s next-generation graph data store, contributing to the Clojure open-source community and trying to keep up with his three-year-old daughter.
