Description

brightsolid is undertaking mass digitisation of historical content and bringing together services to enable diverse content usage in family history research. This talk highlights the recent technological development of brightsolid search services for family history, social networking and newspaper archive. It focuses on the contrasting challenges as well as approaches in which SOLR, an open-source enterprise search platform, is deployed in various products. A relating subject, search analytics, will also be discussed.

Boon Low is Search Developer at brightsolid, working on SOLR search engine and user experience development for projects including the British Newspaper Archive, Friends Reunited and Findmypast. Prior to joining brightsolid, he worked in the UK higher education sector, the University of Edinburgh, specialising in user research and user-centred development for web and mobile digital library. He also established various public projects piloting search engine and interoperability mechanisms for integrating digital repositories in virtual learning environments.
